We Need To Serve God Because There Is Yet Work To Be Done!

Another reason for serving God after coming to know Him is that there is still work to be done, or else we would not be here. One reason for God saving us was that we might serve Him, as we have seen already. Another reason for God wanting us to serve Him after saving us is that He saved us because He had work for us to do as a child of His. We often do not realize that all of our life before we even knew God in a personal relationship was shaped by God in such a way as to be the vessel He would later use once we did come to known Him at salvation. With God, absolutely everything has a place and a purpose.

If something exists, it is because it serves some purpose of God somewhere in creation, or else it would not be in existence. It was not that long ago that medical researchers finally figured out the purpose for why we have tonsils, a gallbladder, and an appendix. Until they did, doctors were routinely removing the appendix when doing a gallbladder operation, or removing the gallbladder when removing the appendix. Same with the tonsils, they too were being removed as a matter of course, doctors not truly being aware of what their true purpose was. But once these men of science came to know why God put in tonsils, a gallbladder, and an appendix in the original design, then they were no longer being removed unless absolutely necessary, as is the case today.

We can trust God, for He knows what He is doing. So not only does God want us to serve Him because in doing so we come to experience our greatest wellbeing, but also because He has yet work for us as His children to do, both as a body of believers and individually. What is coming to a close is the present age, which is immediately followed by a time of God’s judgment on earth. What God reveals in His word is that there are certain events which need to take place before this present age ends. One of those events is for all those who are to be saved by God to indeed be saved. But what we ever need to grasp in this regard is that God delights to work through His creation in accomplishing His work, with His precious Son, Jesus Christ, being our Pattern in this while He was here on earth in human flesh. And so, in bringing in those who remain to be brought to salvation during the present age, God wants to use those who are already believers, working in us so that we will share our faith with others. Therefore, this is one very important task that God has for us as His children in these last days, which is to be cleansed and available vessels in His Hands, which He can use to bring the message of salvation to others.

Another very important work which supports the task just mentioned is for us as believers to love and encourage one another as brothers and sisters in the faith while we wait for this age to end. As love for one another grows cold and even non-existent in a world apart from God, it becomes even more necessary for those who personally know The Source of all love to exhibit that love by caring for one another, encouraging one another, and supporting one another. But we will not do so, being instead a casualty rather than a blessing, if we are not walking with God as led and guided by The Holy Spirit, living by God’s imparted life, with no known unconfessed sins in our lives.

And so, in regards to the work mentioned above that yet remains to be done, let us notice again what God says to us at 2 Corinthians 6:1,2, “[1] And working together with Him, we also urge you not to receive the grace of God in vain — [2] for He says, “At the acceptable time I listened to you, and on the day of salvation I helped you.” Behold, now is “the acceptable time,” behold, now is “the day of salvation,” and also at Hebrews 10:24,25, “[24] and let us consider how to stimulate one another to love and good deeds, [25] not forsaking our own assembling together, as is the habit of some, but encouraging one another; and all the more as you see the day drawing near.” May God indeed find us doing so, by His grace and power, as we see this age draw to a close.

(The above is from the author’s book, “Keeping On Serving God In The Last Days,” being a chapter taken from Section Three, “Why it is important to serve God in the last days”)
